v8.38 uses My Work 2 as a project index. New task and log records remain in project notes, existing index record text is retained, and project rename changes the matching index heading. Read-only sample processing loaded 3 projects, 123 logs, and 3 tasks without changing files.
Python compilation passed; all 3 focused index tests passed; all 77 tests passed; `git diff --check` passed. Read-only processing of the supplied sample data completed with file hashes unchanged. Tkinter is unavailable on this host, so GUI interaction and Windows runtime were not tested.
In `maintain_tasks()`, `return cleanup_completed_tasks()` is inside the active-project loop. Only the first active project receives task migration and archive backfill, and cleanup does not run when there are no active projects. Existing tests do not cover these cases. GUI refresh and runtime behavior are unverified.
Not ready until the task maintenance regression is fixed and covered by tests.

The current checkout contains the v8.37 baseline, not the reported v8.38 release. Its code still reads and writes task/log projections in My Work 2. The full suite could not run here because the read-only environment provides no writable temporary directory; 61 tests errored during fixture setup and 13 passed. No project files were modified.

The available code is v8.37. Its project creation, task/log, integrity, and repair paths still read or write My Work 2 records, so the requested index-only behavior is not implemented in this checkout. The existing 74-test suite passes. Read-only loading against the supplied sample vault succeeded; GUI and Windows runtime behavior were not tested.
